These four schools receive the funding from the Sea Island Company Golden Isles Bowl Classic to provide programs including
football, girl's and boy's basketball, soccer, swimming, track, tennis, cheerleading, volleyball, and band. These structured after school activities teach
our young people important life lessons like the value of teamwork, responsibility, character, and a positive attitude. The effects of
these lessons carry over into the classroom, as evidenced by the decline in discipline problems and improved school spirit reported
by local middle school principals. In addition, these activities address societal problems like obesity, juvenile crime, and dropping out
of school. While the Georgia Department of Education now requires character education, Glynn County recognized the importance
of this curriculum component years ago and began addressing it through middle school programs supported by the Golden Isles Bowl
Classic.
